Macroeconomic training

I make economic principles and theories accessible to anyone.

For the first time, I’ve understood how exchange rates work.

Now I have a framework for understanding the growth of developing economies.

These quotes are typical of the feedback I get from attendees of my seminars and courses.

Whilst I love teaching undergrads, I also enjoy teaching/training for professionals.

My style is collegial and hands-on, using ‘active learning’ techniques.

MACRO-FINANCIAL ANALYSIS

Macro-financial metrics—such as bond yield spikes, currency peg pressure, and capital flight— often signal impending political instability. This programme helps analysts solidify their understanding of these concepts.

By better understanding currency stability, debt dynamics and other market signals, analysts augment their suite of stability-forecasting tools.

SESSION 1: THE ANATOMY OF SOVEREIGN STRESS

Focus: Using exchange rates, inflation, and interest rates as leading indicators. Analysts will learn to identify the “Impossible Trinity” and recognize when a government is losing control of its currency.

Example Application: Identifying which countries are at higher risk of sudden subsidy cuts—a driver of mass civil unrest.

SESSION 2: FINANCIAL STATECRAFT AND CAPITAL FLOWS

Focus: Analyzing the balance of payments (BoP) and foreign direct investment (FDI). This session covers how “financial weapons” like sanctions or debt-trap diplomacy impact state stability.

Example Application: Determining if a country has the “runway” to survive a crisis or if it is vulnerable to external political coercion.

SESSION 3: THE BOND MARKET AS A TRUTH MACHINE

Focus: Interpreting bond yields and interest rates.. The bond market is often more honest than government statistics.

Example Application: Teaching analysts to monitor market-based indicators of default to flag political-regime stress in advance.
